The castle of Kalamata was built in the early 13th century from Godefrido Vileardouino.
During the Venetian period the castle was extended and repaired repeatedly.
It was then that the lion of St. Mark, a typical emblem of Venetians , was added at the main gate.
At the outer walls of the castle ancient stones are still in existence, parts of the Byzantine fortification, reminiscent of the tower and part of the interior yard.
The castle is related to the story of the princess Isabella, who has taken its place in modern literature with the historical novel of Angellos Terzakis “Princess Izabo”.
Inspired from the enigmatic princess story we created this beautiful ring.
